The Valedictory Function of the Inauguration of SALAGRAMAM was held on 18/9/09 at Salagramam, Kundamankadavu, Trivandrum. His Excellency, the Governor of Kerala, Sri. R.S. Gavai, who was the Chief Guest, also inaugurated the GURUKULAM, which will hold the ashram’s curriculum and programmes for children and adolescents, aimed at giving them a value based education and to kindle their latent unlimited potentials. Sri. Gavai was accompanied by his lady, Dr. Kamaltai Gavai.

In his inaugural address, the Governor said that spirituality was the solution of the problems that confront the contemporary world. But to derive the benefits of spirituality, one has to delve deep into the subject. For this, the wealth of India’s tradition and lineage of rishis is still available today, in institutions like Salagramam, he opined.

Sri. V. P. Dhananjayan, Guru and noted dancer, recognized with Padma Bhushan by the Government of India, delivered the keynote address, speaking on the significance of Gurukulam. He expressed the view that the exclusion of Indian cultural values is the base cause for many of the ills in our education system and for the disturbances that we see around us today. In the olden days, living in close proximity with the teacher in the gurukulam, helped the students to develop a calm and peaceful outlook.

The Guru- Shishya parampara is something that we can hold up before the world as uniquely Indian, said Swami Sandeepananda Giri, in his speech of benediction. He further added that it was considered that a person without a guru was one without anything. The gurukulam at Salagramam was the fruition of a dream, he said.

The other dignitaries who participated and spoke in the meeting are Sri. V. Shantaram, IPS - IG Vigilance KSEB, Sri. Thulasidas IAS, Special Officer to Govt. of Kerala and S.Ramnath, MD, KINFRA .Devika Chaitanya,Acharya, SOBG welcomed the gathering and Smt. Lekha Nair delivered the vote of thanks.

The meeting was followed by honouring all those dedicated hands that helped shape Salagramam and a visual presentation on the making of the ashram. Dhananjayan Master thrilled the audience with a spontaneous ‘nrithya’ on Lord Krishna.

A live Bhagavathi Theyyam performance in the premises and a samashti bhiksha for all marked the conclusion of the event.
