The Temple of Knowledge- opened its doors to the seekers of the world at 9 A.M on 09/09/09. Salagramam Ashram that houses the head quarters of the School of Bhagavad Gita was inaugurated by the doyen of Acharyas and unparalleled scholar - Dwadashadarsanacharya Ananthasrivibhooshita Acharya Mahamandaleswar Kashikananda Giri Maharaj with the installation of Bhagavan Veda. The Bhagavan Veda which was handed over by the Maharaja of Travancore after puja at the shrine of Bhagavan Veda Vyasa at the Sri Padmanabha Swamy was taken on a procession through the city to the ashram. The Bhagavan Veda ceremoniously carried to the shrine by students of the Brahmaswom madom, chanting the veda mantras was installed to the accompaniment to the sopanam rendering of the Purusha Sooktam by Njerelath Hari Govindan.
The public sammelan that followed was attended by a large gathering of people from all walks of life. The Maharaja of Travancore, Padmasri Parameshwarji, Sri.O.Rajagopal and Swami Sandeepananda Giri were among those who spoke on the occasion. Trustees of SOBG, Sri. N. Sree Kumar welcomed the guests and Capt. T.P. Venugopal delivered the vote of thanks. In the evening session, Sri Shreyams Kumar MP inaugurated the first Yajnam in the ashram - the 9th Chapter of the Bhagavad Gita by Swami Sandeepananda Giri.
On 10/09/09, Dr. R.K. Pachuari, DG of IPCC and winner of Nobel Prize for Peace inaugurated and delivered the keynote address at NARAYANAM - the outreach programme of Salagramam, highlighting the significance of reverence for Nature and the environment. Narayanam, the journey from water to life and beyond. The ceremony symbolised and suggested this inner journey towards the very source of one’s existence. School of Bhagavad Gita endeavours to be the vehicle that facilitates this journey.
The ceremonies began with the handing over of the pot of water filled from the Karamana River, on whose banks School of Bhagavad Gita is situated. The pot was received by the Chief Guest, Dr. R.K. Pachauri, who watered 14 saplings of indigenous trees that were received by 14 personalities representing the 14 districts of Kerala. To be planted and protected by the local populace at each of these districts, these trees will provide the benevolent shade for people to congregate every month and set off on the voyage of discovery, creativity and awareness. This symbolic ceremony also carries the message that Worship of Nature is the Worship of Divinity. Smt. Sugatha Kumari, noted poetess and environmentalist chaired the meeting. Sri. Abdul Karim was presented the 2009 Beacon of Inspiration Award of the School of Bhagavad Gita for his unique efforts in the greening of the environment. Ms. Karen McGeary welcomed the audience and Dr. M.R.R. Menon expressed thanks on behalf of SOBG.NAIMISHARANYAM - the Satsang Hall was opened in the evening of 10th by Smt. Rajam Menon and Sri. Jayakrishnan Menon, son of Padmasri. C.K.Menon.
VRINDAVANAM on Sri. Krishna Jayanthi, 11/09/09 featured Thulasi Prathishta and the installation of Salagramam, followed by ACHARYA SANGAMAM - a congregation of acharyas from various orders. A scholarly discourse on ‘ OM NAMO BHAGAVADE VASUDEVAYA’ by Acharya Kashikananda Giri Maharaj and a gurudakshina and bhiksha to the sanyasis were the hall marks of the Sangamam.
NALANDA - TAKSHASILA - the Library complex of SOBG was inaugurated by Sri T K A Nair, IAS, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister of India. Sri. Nair, reading out from ‘Impressions’ a book of celebrated comments on the Gita brought out by SOBG in commemoration of the Inauguration of Salagramam, to students signified the handing down of knowledge to the younger generation. In the meeting that followed, two books published by SOBG were released - Bhagavad Gita Padippikkunathu,the Malayalam translation of Swami Dayananda’s work by Smt. Rema Menon and Bhagavad Gita 108 Notes, the English version of the summation of Swami Sandeepananda Giri’s Sampoorna Gita Jnana Yajnam, translated by Dr. A.P. Sukumar of Canada. The books were received by Sri. Jayakrishnan Menon and Sri Shiva Kumar respectively. Felicitations were offered by Sri. Purushothaman, DGM of the Union Bank of India and Smt. K.S.Chitra who expressed herself through a sloka in praise of Lord Sri. Krishna.
