The School of Bhagavad Gita honoured the Guru Parampara by celebrating Sankara- Chinmaya Jayanti on 9th May 2008, which coincided with the birth anniversaries of Jagat Guru Adi Shankaracharya and Swami Chinmayananda on 9th May and 8th May respectively. The special function organized at the Fine Arts Hall, Ernakulam, was inaugurated by the Honorable Governor of Kerala, Sri. R. L. Bhatia and presided over by Adv. C. K.Menon, Director, NORKA Roots. The Hon. Governor released two publications of SOBG on the Bhagavad Gita - the Malayalam version of Sankara Bhashyam - Sankaracharya’s commentary on the Gita- by handing over a copy to Swami Sandeepananda Giri and Bhagavad Gita Swadhyayam of Guru Nitya Chaitanya Yati, to Muni Narayana Prasad.

In his inaugural address, Sri. Bhatia said that there have been other great civilizations in the world, such as Greek, Roman and Egyptian, but it is only the Indian civilization that has stood the test of time and is a living force even today. This is because it has always been nurtured over the ages by our acharyas, with their lives and efforts. In this regard, he said that the names of Sankaracharya and Swami Chinmayananda stand out most prominently.

The Sankaracharya Memorial Lecture delivered by Dr. Sukumar Azhikode threw light on the vision of the Jagat Guru that looked beyond frontiers and the very open-minded manner of teaching and the teacher- student relationship that he encouraged. Dr. Azhikode paid tributes to the unparalleled contributions of Sri Sankaracharya in the integration of our land and the huge volume of works that he produced - all in his short life-span of 30 odd years. Swami Chinmayananda Memorial Lecture by Alexander Jacob, IPS gave interesting and informative insights into the life and tireless efforts of the charismatic personality of Swamiji.

The function also featured a talk by Muni Narayana Prasad of Narayana Gurukula. Swami Sandeepananda Giri delivered the speech of benediction. Earlier, Sri N. Sree Kumar, Trustee, School of Bhagavad Gita welcomed the gathering. Sri S. K. K. Nair proposed a vote of thanks.
