SWAMI SANDEEPANANDA GIRI’S VISION FOR THE YOUTH
The youth and children have always had a special place in Swami’s scheme of things. He maintains a good rapport with them and has the unique quality of being able to see things from their angle. This has endeared him to the youngsters and they look forward to every opportunity for his empathetic acquaintance.
Swami Chinmayananda used to say, "The youth are not useless, they are only used less"
Swami Sandeepananda Giri reiterates this statement. He believes in the innate goodness and optimism of the young ones and recognizes the store of immense potentialities that lie within them. By awakening these talents through activities involving youth and with the application of the knowledge of our ancient civilization in a contemporary fashion, Swami seeks to bring about individual inner transformation that will be the catalyst for social transformation
SANDEEPANI GURUKULAM
This is a comprehensive scheme through which the growing years from infancy to mature youth are taken care of. Aimed as an extra-curricular activity, it will see the progressive enrichment of a child’s personality which unconsciously imbibes the right values and culture in the process.
Sandeepani is the idyllic world of the gurukulam where Sri Krishna spent his schooling years. It also saw the ideal teacher- student relationship and the ideal spirit of comraderie with Sudama.
Salagramam’s Sandeepani Gurukulam recreates this ambiance of the gurukulam of yesteryears, where learning is mingled with love and laughter. Friendship, mutual respect, affection and trust are the watchwords that prevail in this comfort zone. Sandeepani Gurukulam oversees and encourages the flowering of the personalities of the child and the youth to blossom into upright individuals with a balanced outlook.
NACHIKETA - Children’s wing
Nachiketa provides a learning experience for children in the age group of 5 to 14 years, in an atmosphere of fun and freedom. Basic values along with suitable sections from our scriptures will be introduced to the children through song and story. These weekly interactive sessions will be dealt with by teachers who have a way with children. Nachiketa hopes to instill in them, the spirit of creativeness, curiosity and confidence. Aptly, therefore, this wing is named after Nachiketa, the plucky young boy of Katha Upanishad, who sets out to seek the Truth with determination and perseverance.
WE CAN - The Youth Wing
SALAGRAMAM envisages the building up a strong youth force who believe in themselves, who are capable of supporting themselves and able to be of use to the world. They will have “WE CAN” as their motto and with their dynamism, support and propagate the activities of the ashram.
VISWA DARSHANAM-Seeing the world
It is said that travel is the best form of education. Viswa Darshanam is the heritage tour for young people, which introduces to them the various aspects of our land, people and culture. It enables them to be proud of their heritage and take efforts to preserve it. Such tours are also organized as exchange programmes between children in India and those living abroad to encourage mutual understanding and respect for alien cultures. Camps together with cultural tours in which children of all nationalities participate will be held every one or two years.
CHINMAYAM- Recognising Merit
Salagramam will identify and recognize persons who through their contributions, have served as guiding lights to our culture. CHINMAYAM is the award given to such persons who have done pioneering work- practical or research- towards the betterment of our world and which are in tune with the goals envisioned by the ashram.
